Bridge parchment, made of quality sheep or goat skin. Used primarily for string protection. A thin, strong, treated leather glued on the bridge to protect where pressure causes the strings to cut into the bridge. Thin is suitable for violin and viola, medium and thick for cello and bass. Very thick (patching) is suitable for reinforcement of cracks and other repair work.
Average sheet sizes are around 3 × 12 inches (7.5cm x 30cm), which will serve for many bridges.
