At the risk of misquoting or mis-attributing, I used a method suggested in one of Michael Darntons articles.

What gave you trouble with the Ipe? I’ve messed with it a bit and have to agree it does have its challenges. |

Those really are enormous plates. The difference between fiddle and an archtop guitar plate was pretty huge, these are a whole other level! |
