Reproducing the colors of a violin is important and not easy. I do not like the bright iridescent glow of some photos such as the one with the black background. I want to know what the color IS or nea ...

Thanks Chet and Craig. I like raised grain and I feel that white wood needs to be toned down to bring out the figure in maple and annual rings in spruce.
A UV tan is too slow and tends not to be stro ...

Chet is right about glue's power to flake glass. (In fact, I think that's what this process is called.) I use small Pyrex dishes placed in the bottom of my glue pot. If I forget to remove them before ...

I made an external form years ago, nicknamed the Iron Maiden. (grins) However, it is unnecessary and cumbersome. As I said above, I use the standard internal form method.

One bit of advice is to ma ...

For removing the garland from the form, I use Darnton's technique and the procedure outlined by Bishop.

If you still have doubts whether their method will work for you, try this: Put in all the lin ...

Now that we agree that linings are necessary (grins), I have a question about details. I was told that the linings must cover "exactly" 50% of the rib. A 32 mm rib should have 8 mm linings a ...

Nothing works like success, Michael!

I do not use Campbell's ideas. He's a nice guy, but wrong IMHO. I became interested in Sam Z's work which has nothing to do with free plate tuning. He suggests ...

Hi Ernie,

I make all my violin garlands with one-piece upper and lower bouts because it is easier IMO than two pieces, ensures a clean continuous look, and makes alignment of rib sections perfect. ...
