Remember French Polishing is only a polishing stradegy that may be used over an oil or spirit varnish finish. Right? It dries very quickly and must be a formula containing a resin of some kind and an oil also.

You tube can provide many examples of French Polishing.

Chuck -

I might add that if you've never french polished before, that you start out on a board. Learn the basics. Then do your violin.

Its a skill you acquire after some basic practice.

First, you should have no oil left after poilshing.... the last step is to spirit off the oils to leave just the shellac. here is an excellent link to an expert tutorial..

ha ha ct... I am picking up your habits.... two posts in a row!
Lee Valley tools puts on a good practical hands on 1 day training course for french polishing... I took it and well worth the $70 cost which includes all the materials.
Here is an example... but depending on where you live, they put it on at various times in their various stores across the country.

Ok...

Lets start over.

(well, now that I'm thinking about it, 'just starting over' might be the problem.)
