Received my copy of Scott Hershey's Spirit Varnish DVD the other day. My opinion is it is very well done with quite a bit of useful information. Answers alot of questions on brush technique and application. Spirit varnish may not be for everyone. For those who want to try it this DVD is definitely a help.

Hi Scott!
I received your DVD a few days ago and am very
pleased with it. I spent a very enjoyable time
last Sunday morning watching.
Your work and care on making this DVD are evident.
The commentaries of what's happening as you proceed are clear
and concise. I think it takes a lot of mystery away and I particularly
like the technique aspects of applying the varnish
I like the end product color wise but am wondering how I would
proceed to get a more darker browning red coloring to the varnish.
Any thoughts on that?

Hello Mr. Hershey,
I have just finished viewing your Varnishing DVD. Thank you for a
quality informative production.
If you would be so kind as to provide me the details, I would like to
purchase your varnishing kit. Also it would be nice to get some
suggestions for suppliers of tools and materials not supplied in your
kit. In particular, 200 proof alcohol is not available in Virginia
without a permit from the state ABC.
I am an amateur builder with 20 instruments completed using oil
varnishes.
Again, thank you. I look forward to your reply

Another Viewer Comments on the "How to Spirit Varnish" DVD.
Hello Scott I had a look at the Varnish D V D.
I think you did a great job making the DVD.
You put a lot of clear details on how to apply it to the violin & making the varnish.
I just wish the violin making books were as clear. I have not gotten to the varnish yet, I made a couple bodies & am not satified with them so this winter I am going to start over again.
Good Luck with them

This review just in.
Mr. Hershey;
I received and viewed your varnishing DVD yesterday evening. What an incredible resource! I have been afraid to give spirit varnish a try owing to the many negative comments I have read about the process on the sundry message boards. But now, armed with your DVD, I am confident that I can succeed.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this service to our community.
Regards,
D. Dougherty |
