Don't know if it is worth the trouble...but the center seam holds. Why would another, parallel seam, not hold?

I have one top where I did not like the f-holes ( #3) so I made another top and I have kept the old one it as reminder to take more care when cutting f-holes. If it is just too much margin you can always make a new mold to fit the top you have... kind of like working backwards.

Hi Ken,

Parallel seams will hold, if that's what you want.
It sounds like the purfling is in already so re-doing the outer parts of the plate means a lot more work, joining, flattening, matching wood, splicing purfling.
This plate is a good candidate for learning better technique perhaps. Scoot it over on your ribs and trace the outline again and have another go and then when you are confident start with a new billet of spruce.

sounds like a better way out for this top it`s been laying around for a few years . This is one of the first lessons of measure twice & cut once

Thank you Ken

I ditched a top and back in the last month and glad that I did, turning out much better.
