The jig arrived the other day, and I have begun thinking about doing a bit of rebuilding already.
The sliding support for the bow head features a flat head screw coming up from the bottom. This is countersunk into a rectangular piece that slides in a rabit on the underside of the frame. The result is that trying to tighten the wing nut on the top does not always work.
I am thinking of trying to swap in a 5/16" carriage bolt for the 1/4" flat head machine screw that is there. The hole in the bow-head support is already oversize, and tends to let the screw cock and jam. It all gives the impression of a thing whose construction has been simplified from the original conception. It might even be the case that the original design called for a 3/8" carriage bolt to fit directly into the rabit. I will offer one up and see how it goes....
I knew I would end up modifying it, even before I committed to buy it, but I am comfortable with that. I sort of like "kit bashing".
I will post some before and after pics later. That will make some of my ramblings make more sense....

Here are a couple of pics that show the original construction of the bow-head cradle.
In addition to the silliness of having a slotted screw head on the bottom of the jig, the holes were pretty much oversize. I figured that it would be a win/win to go to the next size of bolt.
So, I replaced the lower slide and made the hole accept a 5/16" carriage bolt. Well....as it turns out, there really isn't enough clearance for the height of the carriage bolt head, so I had to reduce that.
Here's a view of the underside with the new bolt in place.
Everything slides nicely now, and the cradle can be reliably positioned and tightened from the top.
