Hi,

Today I had my first attempt at a rehab of an old snakewood bow. Part of the tip was missing and the ivory wasn't there. I fixed and shaped the tip alright, and then tried to glue the ivory. I decided to use G2 Flex epoxy, don't ask why. Turns out cure time is like 10-12 hours. Gluing was a pain, I had the bow on a rehair clamp and even then, had trouble getting the string around it to hold it down. In the end, I used some small quick grip clamps, but it's not an ideal situation.

I like the Lemuel tip clamp, and I will probably get one of those. If anyone has something else in the mean time, I'd like to give a try. As much as I do woodworking, I hate building my own jigs for anything.

cheers,

You're a brave man to use ivory! I'm sure the feds won't come for you...today, anyway.

I think that's the question. As an alternative, casein looks a lot like ivory. Bends a little more easily, too.

Has anyone tried elk/deer antler? Or is it too porous to be used?
