Hi dudes,
Me gotts a cello voicing question.
How would you carve / profile the plates for a deep dark quality?
How would you carve / profile the plates for a bright quality?
Thanks

You can change the "darkness" or brightness" of an instrument be changing the set-up. Different strings can make a huge difference, as can the cut of the bridge, and the soundpost placement. In making a new instrument, the density and stiffness of the wood make a difference, as well as the arching, volume, and shape. No simple answers.
I know that this particular post is about cello, but here's a chart for violin
