Hopefully someone with experience can clarify the grain orientation statement.

Based purely on woodworking principles, I would orient the plug with end grain at the top/tip and bottom, side grain on the visible face, and face grain on the left/right sides of the plug. That way, there is hardly any vertical movement, there is insignificant sideways movement, and much of the movement is with respect to depth.

I am not sure the actual movement of a plug is large enough to justify the need to optimally orient side and face grain.

cheers,
Cosmin

Please take care tha vains of cendar to be horizontal. Not parallel with the bow. When you put them horizontal, the wood expands and full up the hole.
Thank you too

Cosmin,

Rodney Mohr teaches to orient grain to match the grain of the bow.

Ok. I was doing that. And the "rule" is that (to orient grain to match the grain of the bow). But, from my father, and many others, since we used cendar with horizontal grain we never changed. Just try it and you will see at your own.

Thank you again
