Hi Ken... for the lateral location, I place the right hand flap of the card on the underside of the f-hole, otherwise the flap will hit the end of the bridge before reaching the post because the bridge usually extends beyond the soundpost edge.
Cheers... Mat

Good point, Mat.
I wasn't thinking of that when I sketched the diagram, and you are absolutely correct.

hello mat --Chet I have been using the card like the way you explained
It`s the man that cant get it in his head how to do it .
I think with the drawing & showing him he may get it .
When you explain something & they come back with I don't know that is where it was when I got the fiddle you get the message ...

The post is about a good 1/2 inch behind the bridge & it sounds like H..l
anyway I am sure you two have seen & heard it all Thanks ken

Mat, I've never had that problem. If the post is that far south, just cut another card with a wider left flap. I like the outside flap to be right next to the bridge to better judge the position.

Hi Ken..... I think we are on the same page.....
fiddle on the bench, neck to the right... The left flap is always outside the body behind the bridge... therefore the right flap is always inside against either the side or front of the post.
??? ... cheers, Mat

Mat, not the way Chet diagrammed it nor the way I do it. Left flap is inside for checking lateral position and right flap inside for north-south position. For lateral position the right flap is on the fingerboard side of the bridge. His diagram is slightly in error on that point.

Ken... I missed... Thought I was responding to you, but it was L.P's comment.... duh!
LP.... you are right..., if you move the card flap over to the front side of the bridge, it works. I guess we all have our ways.
Cheers, Mat
