I've been away from the forum for a while, so jumping in here after scanning comments. My only observation, how to measure progress on graduating if the box is already closed. _________________ Dave in the Blue Ridge

There are two options.
for closed top,
you insert metal from f hole and sand some specific zones.
second
you put two magnets one inside one outside , travel the double magnet on top and if you agree , remove them and carve outside of mmagnet.
you decide by ear , watch the youtube video attached _________________ Mustafa Umut Sarac

well the problem becomes after you remove the wood , and it sounds worse ,
getting it back is a problem,
It would seem you would have to have a lot of experience to figure out what wood to remove and how much in the first place. |

you have to make experiments with cheap violins before the expensive ones.
I have put a book link to the thread and it shows all the critical areas been carved by stradivari and later by the author.
there are intersecting graphs shows the old and the new selected areas to be carved with steel file from within f holes.
magnet thing is a logical thing. How much magnets weight and how much wood weights and loses strenght by removing process.
you have to make calculations and make experiments on cheap violins.
This is carpentry , you cut , glue , bend , file or add. Harwork so the good violins are expensive. _________________ Mustafa Umut Sarac
