I have been using Despiau bridge blanks for my 5-string model because the are harder than the Aubert IMO.
I was wondering how the Milo Stamm compare to the Despiau? Also what is the difference between the "A" & "B" models of the Stamm?

This page has pics of the bridges.

The feet look different to me from the A to the B , and the arch between the feet are different, with A being flat, while B is more rounded.

Subjectively, the hardness of the wood used in the bridges, from softest to hardest would be:

Aubert > Despiau > Milo Stamm

Despiau is my long time favorite bridge, now, however, I am experimenting with the Milo Stamm, their wood is really hard and of superb quality and consistency.

I've completely switched to Milo Stamm blanks.

I have seen a decline in the quality of the Aubert bridges, even the De Luxe. I have recently used a few Despiau bridges adn was impressed with the quality.
I use them more and more on mid grade instruments as I do not want my NOS stock of Auberts to run out.
I have never tried the Milo Stamm ones, I am even embarassed to admit I have never heard the name before. Guess I have to get out from under my rock a bit more frequently.
thansk for the heads up on a fine sounding new product

I received my Stamm bridges that I ordered form Luscombe Violins and I have to say I am impressed with the apparent quality. I have not cut one yet but they sure are "pretty"... The quality of the wood appears to be excellent.

Barry can you tell us what type of Milo bridge you went with?
I need to buy a bridge for my first violin and don't want to mess up.
Should I get more than one?

YEah, don't I wish.

I had to bust my hump for every improvement.

I recently went through my little wood scrap dawer and I found my first bridges that I cut in school.
Man were they Horrible!!
FOr practice get some cheap blanks.
once you are done whittling them down to nothing to make the lobes even and the legs nice. then you should start on something of better quality.

I ordered the "K" model. According to Leif, the "K" is a standard model.

I agree with Jack order several if for no other reason to save on shipping.

One thing I did notice is that they are slightly narrower at the top than a Despiau. On a 4-string this doesn't really matter but I am making mostly 5-string violins so it is a little more critical for me.
