Reading the back of the Strad Poster for Alessandro Gagliano the writer says it is uncertain where he learned his craft . In one of the old violin books (on a CD )listing violin makers it tells us Gagliano was one of Stradivari`s first pupils . Finding Violin information can be like playing Snakes and Ladders.
Not exactly connected but the story goes that Josef Hassid suffered from memory lapses. As far as I know (not that far ) he lost his place as he was playing in a competition where he was a pupil .Just that once and his reputation was in tatters for the rest of eternity . It doesn`t take much . |

There's documentary evidence now from Stradivari's will that Omobono seemed to be living in Naples for a few years, about around the time when the Gaglianos adopted the Stradivari model. That might have been the original source of the rumor. I doubt that Allessandro was Strad's student, and there's noting Stradivarian in his work at all. _________________ new blog at my site! http://darntonviolins.com/blog

The Strad poster writing mentions a hint of Stradivari and also a touch of Amati . All in that one instrument . But if they had Google at that time they would have lost just as much information as they do today . |
