So just had a call to repair a Left hand fiddle.... have not seen it yet, but apparently the bass bar has already been flipped, but not the Pegs.
So, just cruising the net I see there are 3 philosophies on the matter..
1- Completely flip the violin... ie Bar, post, strings, fingerboard and bridge
2- Play the RH fiddle with no changes except that you hold the bow left hand... only the chin rest is moved to the other side ... ie like Ashley MacIsaac.... and the e string is the highest elevation (Top one) as you play.
3- Learn to play the RH violin as everyone else does.
and BTW... it challenges me to understand why a violin held in the left hand is considered a RH violin!
Question... of the 3 options above, (or other) what is the trend these days as far as recommendations for students? for adults?
Your thoughts appreciated! ... Cheers, Mat |
