This was told to me by the one of the curator at the Shrine To Music at USD in South Dakota. The one is a early american made fiddle homemade by someone and the other is a early french fiddle . I was showing her some I picked up and was wondering which ones to rob parts from for another restoration and she talked me into restoreing these first. _________________ Hobbit |

"Violin Restoration - A Manual For Violin Makers" by Hans Weisshaar and Margaret Shipman is the "bible" for many of us for that kind of work. However, that kind of work is not easily learned on one's own. To do it correctly is not simple or fast. The book is only about $400.[/b] _________________ Doug Wall

remove the top, clean the top remove mimimal amount of bad wood to get a flat clean surface. find matching piece ( grain lines, cut, direction, color) and match and replace wood. cut out what ever is not an f hole adn color match and varnish.
easy for me, been doing it for years. What is your level of experience?
