Used the wrong ground.....
Mirecourt violin, vary nice, was in 14 pieces when I got it, needed a new bass bar, graduations, worm damage, and putting back together
It is all in one piece including a new rib, strung it up before finishing the rib and it sounds great.
Went to finish the ribs and grabbed the wron bottle and did not read, put a nice yellow stain on instead of the Imprimatura Dorata.
Any clues on how to get this lovely yellow off and get the ID on...
Am I going ot have to scrape??

Is it an alcohol-base, water-base, or oil-type stain?
Any chance you can (mostly) wash it out with the appropriate solvent? If not, I still would not scrape it. Yellow won't hurt the sound, scraping might. You might test on a piece of scrap to see how deep the stain might have gone, but my guess is that it would be deeper than you would want to scrape.
Yellow can be dimmed toward brown with a judicious application of purple.
One other possibility would be Citri-solv, a citrus-based paint-remover. I don't like it, but I have used it on two occasions, and it did remove all the finish, down to bare wood, without damaging the wood. (We are talking last-resort, here...) |

I'd opt for a single-malt solvent for the technician before proceeding. _________________ Jeffrey

Hey Chet,
It is a water base, tried water, turps, alcohol, some came out but I just finished scraping. was not too deep, just have to finish it up again.
