I've always used Sacconi's vernice bianca on the inside (but not the silicate),

Didn't the traces of silicate that sacconi claims to have found come from the horse grass that was used to finish the wood??

Wood itself contains silicate particles, so it is hard to say exactly what is going on here.
I would hazard a guess, and say that horsetail would not leave a huge amount of silicate behind in the wood, compared with say, Sacconi's Potassium Silicate coating.
