this is alberto bachmanns "encyclopedia of the violin"....it was first published in 1924, it has a forward by his friend yasye...

it is a treasure trove of information....from a very opinionated guy, from a time and perspective in history where the violin still had its rightful place at the top of the musical food chain, and was a symbol of sophisticated knowledge and status.

some of the pictures seem to be edited out, but the majority of the information is there for free....in there you will find

an enourmous list of all well known makers from the begining to his present time

a list of all the great players and virtuoso

a list of liniage related to makers and players...

great varnish recipes, and component expalnation

sophisticated discussion on proper technique based on auer

etc. etc....

the book is ofcourse availible for purchase....but heck here most of it is for free

Both. I swear he just made up half the "facts", at least in the category relating to violins. Or his advisor on those sections was grossly uninformed. The player part, I don't know.

Got a feeling that will be plural--but I'd like to know, too.
