I have another question I would like to ask. Is there anywhere plaster casts of classic instruments (violins) can be found? How is it that these things exist, and how might one go about obtaining one? I don't foresee having the opportunity to examine or study the real deal, but perhaps plaster casts are an option for someone eager to study the true 3-dimensional form of classic Cremonese violins.
Thanks again! |

There is sometimes talk of these becoming available, but at the moment I don't know of a source.
The way to get access to these is to make contacts in the violin world, and as people get to know you things can happen. |

Yes, they could be produced.... they would say more than thousand pages of photos or descriptions... But the archings on old instruments are distorted, so the casts should be "interpreted" in order to be used to make new instruments, they could not be copy blindly, I think. _________________ www.manfio.com

Manfio, thank you. Not having the opportunity to study the real thing, my reason for having interest in the forms is as study pieces, to learn more about the defining charcteristics of the Cremonese form. |
