|
|
I remember reading something about this a good while back on
a Forum, but can't find it now.
One of my violins sounds great on all strings, and in all positions
except the note D, when I bow it on the A string. The sound of the
note is hard to describe. Sort of a strained, scratchy sound, and I
have to use a little extra effort when hitting it. It's just not right.
The string, and string length are correct, the afterstring length is O.K.,
the nut and strings are the right height, the pegs and button are fine,
and soundpost adjustments don't seem to have any effect on it.
This string has always sounded a little off, but has gotten worse lately.
Suggestions and comments welcome.!!! |

Hi Jack,
It is called a "wolf note". Do a google search and you will find lots of information, more than I could post here.
Let us know if you have success remedying the problem. _________________ Leif Luscombe

Sounds like it is a wolf note.
Might help to move the post nearer to the bridge.
Try a different string also.
What kind of strings are you using? |

Hi Jack,
I have tried three different strings. A Tonica, a Violino, and a
Dominant. They all sound pretty much the same. Also, have tried
three different bridges, and moving the soundpost. It may be just
a poorly constructed violin, and I will have to live with it. Please
check my new Topic. |
