I have a Dorfler violin bow that is less than 12 months old.
Is is a student bow in the $150.00 price range.
After not using it for about 2 month, I removed it from its case and found that about 20 or 30 hairs were broken at the point where it enters the tip.
The tension was released.
What may have caused this? and
Is there anything I can do to stop the rest breaking?

Were they all broken on the same line?
Could be a few causes of this.
there is a hair eating insect that will chew through them in a straight line, right across, fumigate the case and you should be ok.
Could also be old/ bad quality hair... could be the plug was too tight...
If the hairs are together that were 'eaten' thn it most likely is the bug.
Get it rehaired and spray the case.

Yes they were all in a straight line
directly in line with where they go
into the plug.
Thankyou; I have fumigated the case.
