Recently I've noticed that my students who progress the most quickly don't put their violins in their case between practice sessions. Then I visited someone whose children are learning through the Suzuki method and noticed violins hanging on the wall.
Have other teachers noticed that their students practice more? I remember George Orner, former principal second violinist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, complaining half-jokingly that the most strenuous thing about playing the violin was taking it out of its case--perhaps there's something to that statement?
Curious to hear your responses!

Out of sight, out of mind. I find that my keeping my instruments in plain view, it reminds me more to practice.

not an expert by any means, but I dont think it matters. The one thing I have noticed is that if I leave my violin on the stand for a couple days without playing, it needs a little touch up tuning. where if I store it in the case she's almost always still in perfect tune.

Id guess this has something to do with temp and humidity fluxuations in the room.
