Hello. I have a 4/4 violin and a full size cello, but no bows. I only want to purchase one right now, would you recommend a cello bow, a violin bow, or maybe a viola bow? Is there anything about my bow choice that i should pay particular attention to? I'm not a professional musician so i'll get a low-end bow, but at the same time i want to make sure i spend enough to get something worth using.

Thanks for your time,
-Scott

If you had a gas powered car, and a diesel powered car, which fuel would you buy?

Decide which instrument you want to learn first, and buy a bow for that one.

Get a teacher, they can guide you re: the bow.

Otherwise get a widely-recommended beginner bow from a reputable company. Many of the synthetics are dependable for this.

Actually, get a violin bow and focus on the violin for now.

From comments by various teachers and players, it is my understanding that you lose more by delaying your start on the violin than you do on the cello.

Violin bows and cello bows are such different sizes, weights and hair widths, that you can't really use them interchangeably. Decide which instrument you want to start with and get a bow for that one first.
