My purchase of the Scherl and Roth violin mentioned above did not work out.

I have a new prospect. Did Ernst Reinhold Schmidt ever identify his instruments by a simple brand on the inside that read E.R.S. ?

I don't know the answer to this and my sense is that most readers in the Musicains forum won't either. You might post this question in the luthier section, above, or on the Pegbox on Maestronet:

The Pegbox has a lot of eminent luthiers and they would very likely be able to respond more helpfully.
