|
|
Many people will remember the wonderful tv films of Paul Tortellier giving masterclasses on the cello. Most of these were Bach Sonatas .He was keen to tell us of images in his mind that fitted the music. Some of these films can be seen on u tube today. Do other players of cellos and violins and also violas ( don`t forget the violas) have any personal images that help to focus the meaning of Bach`s music?
I shall keep my favourite till you have all had a go. |

I have a book on Bach, and the photo of his birthplace statue shows him in what I believe to be his best character. I know its not imagery but it does strike a vivid image between the man and his music. When I hear or play his music this statue comes to mind. _________________ you cant get any worse |

Yes ,well,it`s a start. What does the book say about it?Did you see the programmes on tv when they first came out?I think if you try you will get more images. Not as in pictures but as short scenarios in your head which match the music.
One thing that confuses me is the shear speed that the sonatas are played. If they originated with dances you would need a doctor`s note to dance at that speed. |

All the book tells me is that its a statue at his birthplace, I didn't see the programmes you have mentioned though they do seem an interesting series to watch. _________________ you cant get any worse |
