|
|
Hello,
I am new here...
As part of my ongoing research on the music of composers
who were victims of censorship and repression during the
1930s and 1940s under Nazi fascism, I am always looking for any
cabaret, music hall or variety show pieces that could possibly be
performed by stringed instruments, either alone or in ensemble, that were
composed during that period.
String trios or quartets, violin, clarinet and piano...any combination!
I hope that no one here find what i have just said offensive in any way?
I would be very interested in speaking with anyone who might have knowledge
of sheet music that could fit these categories.
Thank you, everyone. _________________ Lisa Paglin

Goldenage Slightly off subject but my Mother in law agreed with me recently that the Germans in the war had all the best tunes. Her husband used to maintain Spitfires in the RAF so there is no prejudice where music is involved. The string instruments confiscated by the Nazis was the topic in this month`s Strad magazine.
Who wrote Intermezzo? That composer`s name could fit your subject ,surely? The topic is very interesting.Have you tried translating into German? (or Polish or Rumanian or Russian) Vienna is where the musicians arrived to escape repression. I have long wanted to find a tragic solo for violin that I once heard over a concentration camp film.I know it is not played these days.It is not in Schindler`s List.If you find something you will be a hero. Good Luck. |

If you haven't already, you should read about the history of Felix Mendelssohn. Who even had his music to midsummer nights dream completely removed. His story was portrayed in the excellent BBC series Mendelsssohn and the Nazis. _________________ you cant get any worse |

This is very interesting. Where I live I don't think that magazine is available...is there some way to order it that you know of?

I am not sure which Intermezzo you mean! For what instrument(s)? Could it be the Intermezzo by Martinu? Or is it one by Provost? Or do you mean the old film?

That is a good idea. I have been in touch with musicians from many places, including Poland, Israel, Bulgaria...

Perhaps Achron's Hebrew Melody?
If you find something you will be a hero. Good Luck. |
