Hi everyone, l've just registered and l look forward to share experiences and stuff with you Smile l hope we get along well.

For now, l have a certain question l'd like help with, if l shall ask.

Can you recognize violin strings from the the tail of it?
The situation is that l was gifted with 2 strings, the D and A, and its tail is very particular, and nobody seems to know what strings are those.

That's the picture:

Help would be very much appreciated

BTW, it was D'dario's Prelude with Pirastro's Chromcor on E, now it's G Prelude, D and A with that weird string and Chromcor E...

The sound of those two strings are very pretty and loud, it feels like steel, but somehow there's a complexity on its sound l've never seen, given my limited experience with different brands...

l play mostly country and gipsy music, so l'm a little afraid to jump to Obligato or Evah yet Rolling Eyes

Welcome to the forum Kschiavo,

It is hard to tell what strings the D and A are. However, you can get more clues by examine the color codes or pattern of the strings at the peg end.

Could you provide those as well?

That's the thing, they've broke yesterday. The thing l could notice is that it's gold core (at least the D), which for me seems a bit odd.

But i'll try.

l thought that the little ring in the tail could tell. Those strings got no rings, it's hollowless. Never seen it like this.

thank you!

that's some awesome index!

I'm looking for the peg shapes, as the sleeve seems to be plain colored

And l gave it back, as l'm putting Infeld Blue on my Violin tomorrow

EDIT:

l don't seem to find those strings... l broke the D and now l see there's no black band for D, only for G, which might explain my mess Embarassed

On the other hand, l'm from Brazil, where some luthiers do their own strings... l might find something interesting then... Thanks anyways!

It is hard to tell without seeing the pegbox end color. My guess is,
and I could be wrong, is that they are Chinese Strings.
