so for removal of glue squishing out, i have been using a brush diped in hot water and then a rag wipe.....however i find that its still under my clamp joints...
how do you prevent this{even removeing, then wiping around them then re-applying them, i still have it squirting out} i'm not applying huge amounts either, just what would naturally come out during clamping...
also what do you guys do to remove dry glue...wipe it hard with a wet rag?
i find that out of all this violin making stuff the glue is the most annoying part.... |

you are doing fine with the warm damp/moist brush and rag wipe later.
When I close an instrument I clean the seam area with the brush and rag, then I remove the clamps one by one and clean what ever needs to be cleaned. If you need to clean a lot then you are using too much, you just want a small bead of squeeze out to let you know it is enough. I know glue is cheap but if is squeezing out that much on the outside, just imagine what is happening on the inside. It is important to clean instruments from drying glue. The stuff pulls so hard when it drys that it will lift the varnish right off!!!!
As for already dried glue, use a brush or rag with the water. have a dry one at hand , be careful not to drip all over.
I find glue most annoying when I have to clean it from the inside of instruments! I hate being sticky! |
