Anyone have any plans for a simple shooting board for joining plate halves? Not interested in joiner plans, just a simple shooting board. Something went wrong with the only one I've made, so I want to see what you've done. Thanks! |

Not much to it. You have to make sure the two halves are flat on the rib surface and the sole of the plane is square to the board you are sliding them on. Assuming, of course, that the plane sole is sufficiently flat, the blade very sharp (and square) and set for a very light cut.
Alternatively, I guess you could clamp the halves down and move the plane, but that would seem to be the hard way. |

Thanks, Capt. I've seen it done both ways and was trying to figure out the best way. As I may have mentioned, I made one of these a while back but had bad luck with it. Before that, I was actually making joins with a log belted sander. That worked, but was usually a struggle. On the one I made, it turned out that I didn't have enough lift in the board, so I was trying to cut the plate(s) with a small part of the sole that had no blade. Stupid me, but I'm getting a pretty good feel for it now.
Thanks all! |

Sorry polkat, I've seen this request from you elsewhere, and just got back online - I'll see if I can't get some photos up of the shooting board setup I use.
Its pretty cool, if I can manage the photos (which I believe were once up on M-net...) _________________ Look,

Thanks

Hi Craig
I think the sticky post on the first page of the forum "displaying photos on forum" might help. I haven't posted a photo here before but apparently you have post the photo on another web site and then link to that web site to show the photo. Here is an example of the html img tag syntax.
<img src="smiley.gif">
Where you see "smiley.gif" insert your html code to the location of the image. For example, you might enter "http://www.yoursite.com/image".
Hope this helps.
