I have a violin i recently acquired. The tag on the inside says
E.E. Greer, Maker.
Independence, Kansas
Oct. 1931, Number 29
I can't find anything about it, or the company. The only thing about Greer that I can find are just people/lineage trees....
Does anyone know anything? |

I've looked in my violin encyclopedia, nothing, Maestronet, nothing. I think what you have is the 29th violin made by a Mr. Greer. Apparently he never made the big time, but that doesn't mean its not a very good violin. With just 29 violins under his belt, its unlikely he had a violin-making company. You need perhaps to research the man, as family member, and not as a violin maker. When you find him or his family, perhaps you can get some information about the person, when he was born, when he died, he he had another career. If he's like me, he might have started making violins in his 50s and did not (will not) make all that many. _________________ Dave in the Blue Ridge
