Hi I have a top that is a mess around the outside what I mean is too much margin bad corners I wonder if I can cut all that out & is it possible to glue another piece from the f holes out & re do the purfling & corners & What do you folks think would it hold the top is not glued on

I have one top where I did not like the f-holes ( #3) so I made another top and I have kept the old one it as reminder to take more care when cutting f-holes. If it is just too much margin you can always make a new mold to fit the top you have... kind of like working backwards. |

Hi Ken,
Parallel seams will hold, if that's what you want.
It sounds like the purfling is in already so re-doing the outer parts of the plate means a lot more work, joining, flattening, matching wood, splicing purfling.
This plate is a good candidate for learning better technique perhaps. Scoot it over on your ribs and trace the outline again and have another go and then when you are confident start with a new billet of spruce. |

Thank you all for the reply All good advice Now making another mold
sounds like a better way out for this top it`s been laying around for a few years . This is one of the first lessons of measure twice & cut once

I ditched a top and back in the last month and glad that I did, turning out much better. |
