Hi, guys. I'm trying to learn how to play an A # on the A string. Here's a chart:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Violin_first_position_fingering_chart.svg
A sharp or flat is just a half step above or below the natural, right? So exactly how much higher will I be putting my finger based on this chart, in order to play an A # on the A string? I mean, how much higher is a half step approximately on the violin? |

You are right.....a sharp or flat is just half step above or below the natural.
To play the A#, just place your first finger on the fingerboard on the A string
right next to the violin nut (the slightly, higher black ridge where the strings
rests on before entering the peg box). A half step takes approximately a
finger's width. So to play B on the A string, you would pretty well place your
second finger on the A string right next to and touching the first finger. |
