Howdy,
Just found a few places that sell nipple cutters for bows. They come in different sizes. How much clearance do you guys leave between the nipple and the button housing that fits on top of it?
Just for reference, I have some old stock frog screws and I just measured the notch clearance inside the button as follows:
violin: 6 mm
cello: 6.5 mm
bass: 8.2 mm (tough to measure)
I find nipple cutters in the following sizes 5, 5.5, 6, 8, and 8.5.
cheers,

Where did you find the nipple cutters?
Thomas Gerbeth puts it this way (if you trust my interpretation of his German-language explanation): "It is so cut that the button can be turned, but without grinding the nipple. The function of the nipple is the avoidance of the formation of cracks in this very sensitive part of the stick."

Hi,
I didn't get any cutters. They were on my short list from:
http://www.bowbadger.com/contents/en-ca/d18_Nipple_cutter_%28new%29.html
Then I worked out the price for all of them and figure out I could buy a small lathe with that money and call it done. But I already have a lathe, at which point I just forgot about the cutters.
cheers,
