I have this old bow with an open bone frog. A sliver of bone has been broken off along the edge near the shaft.
What materials are used to replace the missing sliver... more bone or a paste of bone & glue?... what type of glue???
Thanks!... Mat |

Mat,
What an interesting frog!
I was hoping you'd get some responses--I'd like to find out the best way to do bone repairs as well. I did google bone carving repairs, and it seems there are many ways to accomplish this, with various glues--CA, something called EPO-Tech, and others. The only thing I'm fairly sure about is that you're going to want to graft on a new piece of bone, just like with a repair to an ebony frog.
If you could post some photos of your repair process, I believe many would find them helpful.
Now, there's probably a lurker out there who's done hundreds of bone repairs. Enlighten us!

Thanks Bob... Yes I am surprised that I did not get the responses I was looking for. I even posted on the "other" forum and no response at all there either.
I am thinking as you suggest to dig a little deeper on line and then I think I will will communicate directly with some of the serious bow restorers to see if I can get some "correct" advice. I could tackle this based on my own assumptions, but I would not want to post that, as there is enough bogus advice out there already!
The search goes on.... Cheers, Mat |
