In the images of the case, 1930c. the first is a similar case and the condition it was in before I started, and the second is the actual case after I finished.

The second image is the violin I am about to attempt to restore. It was my Uncle's prior to WWII. It is believed he picked it up in Europe when he was stationed there.

Nice looking case.

Good luck on the restoration of the fiddle. It looks to be in reasonable condition, except the failed seam on the bellly, so I'm guessing you'll be taking the top off. It'll be fun, just be sure to pause before you do anything irreversible. Don't be afraid to ask for advise before proceeding, especially if this fiddle is of great value to you. You can often pick up something on ebay in similar condition for very little, and experiment on it first.

Thanks Dave. Thanks for the suggestions also. I did look on ebay, but settling on hitting garage sales. I hope no one minds, I'm sure I'll have a million questions by the time I'm through. I will post the progress as the project moves forward. I'll try to keep up with images as well.

Current problems with the violin, so far:

pegbox was modified with a steel gear string adjuster - has been removed and will need bushings and flank facing on both sides.

there are a number of places around the violin where the glue has given way from both the back and the belly, upper and lower bouts

as you pointed out the crack in the belly

and the fingerboard has indentations, somewhat of a spiral pattern down the length of it - not sure to replace it, most likely

...like I said, plenty of questions to follow - hope ya'll don't mind

Dave, thanks again
