Thank you very much for sharing these. The book chapter I will study in great detail and I like the blogs very much, also. The photographs tell most of the story and I always enjoy the photographs you use to illustrate an idea!
All the best,

Michael... your posts are super appreciated!
Question... when you need to remove the top of a violin (like the dutch pic) with the rib inset, how do you do it?... because you can't insert a knife. Soak it with water? ....assuming its glued with hide glue.
Cheers, Mat |

That one just fell apart because the linings were not fit to the back--they just covered a puddle of glue in the ramp. However, I'd use alcohol and patience. The best thing, though, is not to take anything apart if you don't have to. With this type of joint, usually there's no reason to take anything apart, since nothing moves. _________________ new blog at my site! http://darntonviolins.com/blog

Michael, I like the idea of making a slab-cut top for a cello. My concern is that a contemporary slab-cut-top cello would not sell well. Do you have an opinion on it? Thank you. _________________ Randall Shenefelt |
