When laying the plane on it`s side do you notch the guide plate to allow for the blade on the plane or am I missing something I have a long old plane.
I see some set up`s & it don't look like the plane blade has notch so the
plane can lay flat against the guide .
Going to lay the plane upside down & go from there with a guide plate my plane is 24 inches long & 3inch wide Any idea would great ..ken |

The blade will cut a little bit into the guide plate. But considering the blade does not go all the way down, that part of the plane sole with no blade is your actual registration to the plate.
The notching is hard to see on a very finely set plane.
