About to start the repair of a bb split.... The split is an old one, full length, that has been previously repaired and has come partially unglued. The old bar was considerably off spec so I removed it for a new replacement.
After laying out the new BB, I see the split runs exactly under the center of the new bar.
In this case is it still necessary to fit cleats under the bb? .. I'm thinking not??

Thanks for your help!... Mat

you might need to find a way to find a way to stabilize the top from outside while fitting the bar. Maybe time for a plaster cast to work in. I've not run into this, but would say the bas bar itself should work well to fix the problem.

But -- Would the split would run with the bar and not along a grain line?

Dave... interesting thought... Checked the top and the grain lines diverge exactly in line with the bar.
I plan to glue the split first using the zipper cleat method, scrape a clean base for the bar and fit it as usual.
I probably will add a cleat near each end of the bar.
... cheers, Mat
