I might be thinking too much into this but it seems there are two kinds of lavendar spike oils. There is the basic essential oil version and then there is the lavendar spike oil "essence" that can be used as a turpentine replacment. For the varnish recipe from Leif Luscombe, which lavendar spike oil is used? It seems like the essence version is what is needed but I'm not sure. Here is a link to the essence version.
