I'm having trouble solving a string tone problem, when I bow a long constant note on any string I get this odd sound. A nice even clear tone
then a "yawwww" (for lack of a better example) then retun to a clear
tone again. I've tried different rosin methods and cleaning strings but I
can't seem to get any consistency. I have looked at the string movement
with light shinning on the fingerboard and can see a change in the strings
at the same time. Rosin/Pressure/hair/me ? What the heck, HELP ! Confused

Affraid to play slow Embarassed

MLM: Sometimes strings are "false," or just bad. Does this occur on all strings? Have you replaced any of them?

Are the strings far enough away from the fingerboard, or do you need a new bridge or perhaps the strings have made too-deep notches in it?

This is really an interesting question! Seems as though you have done a really good job of trying to tack down the cause. I sure hope you get the answer!!

Assuming your violin is set up correctly, the trouble could be in the
strings, or your bow. You might have too much rosin in certain spots
in the hair, especially in the center section. This would give you the
strange, scratchy sound you are getting in the middle of your bow
stroke.
