Maybe someone can have an answer to my doubt: despite I have improved a bit the sound of my violin it seems to me to sound harsh. Then, I wonder if perhaps it's because when playing my hear is close to the instrument, so that I hear the action of the bow against the strings.
Is it normal with every violin or the good ones are smooth no matter the distance? How to evaluate the smoothness of a violin?

A good violin will always sound good. Be sure you are using good quality strings... If you play classical then Thomastik Dominant strings or equal at minimum quality... if fiddling then Thomastik Superflexible strings or equal. Best way to tell is play as many violins as possible....you will soon get the feel of what is a good and what is a problem violin. You will also get good ideas by visiting your local reputable luthier who can offer an opinion on whether the set up is up to standard.
Cheers, & Happy New Year! Mat
