Is this common or am I doing something wrong? I applied rosin to the bow and during the application, a few strands of hair pulled out which I cut off. Did I apply the rosin too strongly or can this happen from time to time? Thanks.

This is not common, but it's hard to know the cause without knowing the history of the bow (and rosin), i.e. is it brand-new, recently rehaired, very old, etc.

As long as it doesn't keep losing hairs, or wasn't already underhaired, you should be ok. With some brand-new rosin you may be pressing too hard trying to get rosin on the hair, you may need to scrape the surface of the rosin first.
