Hi!
I brought home a bow from the thrift store, it was being sold with a very inexpensive looking, probably Chinese made violin. I'm not a violinist, but as a bassist I'm pretty familiar with the look and feel of older instruments and was attracted to the shape, feel and look of the bow, it's pretty nicely crafted. It is stamped Bausch above the frog and has a very faint stamp of W.Germany which seemingly makes it pretty easy to date. My question: What is the best way to get a value and/or more information on a bow? Thanks so much!

take it to a bow maker or a violin shop for an appraisal.

Bauch west germany comes from a bow making factory, not the real bauch family.

I have seen very good ones and very bad ones. the stick must be appraised on it's own merrits.

sorry for bringing up an old post, but i have a similar question.

I have a stamped Leipzig Bausch bow and was wondering if its made from the family or the factory? I know that Leipzig is the city where the factory is and that ludwig Bausch stamped bows are usally made by the family.

Its a nice bow and does fit the description of and early 1900's bow.
