Hi,
I just got my first violin and I am completely new to this.
I have been playing guitar for ten years and am quite good but i am just awful at violin and i cant read music either...

I have a couple questions

first i don't have a violin tuner but i do have a guitar tuner
i know the violin strings are e a d g so can i tune these to the guitar tuners
e a d g? I really cant seem to tune this thing lol. it just dosent sound right no matter what i try when tuning it...
I also don't have the ability to have a teacher so is their a website or online videos that can teach me to play this wonderful instrument because i want to learn badly thank you very much
- Matt

it depends on the guitar tuner...some will work and some won't.
I don't play guitar, so I can't tell you if tuning to it will work...it depends what octave the G,D,A, and E are in (of course, you could always tune to the same note in a different octaves)
The d on the violin is the d directly above middle C on the piano. G is a 5th lower, A is a fifth higher than d, and E is a fifth higher than A...perhaps that will help you figure out if tuning to your guitar will work.
When you tune your violin, does the string stay as the note you tuned it too? It could be that improperly fit pegs are the cause of your tuning problems.
