Hi Everybody,

My violin of 5 years has a 5 cm crack under the fingerboard..when i bought it 5 years ago, i didnt really notice that its there...a year ago, the crack was only about 2 cm but now it's getting longer and longer.. also the wood under the fingerboard starts to open up a little bit. I want to get it repaired but i'm still very confused. In such cases, can my violin be repaired? or do i need to find another violin? Please help !!

properly built violins use a product called "hide glue"...

the advantage of such glue is that it holds the wood joints very stong, however it can be "melted" by using hot knives and heat, this allows for the violin to be completely dis-assembled by a trained repair person.

so yes if you like your violin, it can be repaired....

basically the top will come off, the crack gets glued and clamped, touch up the finish and then re-glued....good as new....:}
