Many oil varnishes will remain sticky for days or weeks if kept in the dark after being applied.
Yet a few hours in the sun or artificial UV exposure and they're dry to the touch in mere hours. Does anyone know what it is about UV light that speeds up drying? |

Yes, doesn't the oil harden as it oxidizes? Spirit varnish, for example, dries by the evaporation of the solvent. _________________ Making a Violin II

it seems logical to me. i dont know why or how. maybe i'll learn that when i take more chemistry. _________________ http://sgwhiteviolins.googlepages.com/home |

UV light crosslinks proteins and carbon-based polymers - that's curing of a varnish. |
