I Have one of these pegshavers:

What is the proper way to set the taper to the reamer being used other than trial and error? The small end of the peg seems to be a little on the loose side. Does the blade angle have anything to do with the taper, or is it set by the amount of angle on the adjustable V block, or both?
Thanks

I do it this way: I loose the bolts on the blade of the peg shaver, then i put my reamer inside the peg shaver and adjust the blade till it makes full contact with the reamer (taking care to don't ruing the blade and reamer, of course, all that is done very lightly), then I tighten the boltls so that the blade will be in the same taper of my reamer. But there may be a more intelligent way of doing that...

That's what I thought as well. In addition it would be necessary to set the adjustable V block to the taper of the reamer as well? Perhaps it takes more trial and error because of adjusting two different parameters.

Leif,

I seem to remember that in the old forum, there was a lengthy thread about this, with excellent instructions, and a link to someone else's instructions. I have searched this forum to no avail, but I don't know if the old forum archives are available-- do you know how to find that?

Chet

www.csonline.net/designer/music/ps_adj.htm

Is this the link?
If I knew how to make it 'activate" when you click on it , I would.
It looks like a different pegshaver to me, or maybe it is just a different color.

Well, it does link but the site is gone, sorry folks.
It seems like I was on it a couple months ago and it worked. It had really clear instructions, maybe I have it somewhere, I'll look.

This gets you part of the page:

It is possible that it could be back in the future, so a periodic check might prove fruitful.

This is the instructions that came with mine it is like the posted pic .

#1 Set the blade into shaver the so that it projects not more than1/2mm over lip
#2 Adust back plate so that the middle of the V in sliding block lines up with
middle of the V formed by blade and oppposite lip
#3adjust to taper of reamer by loosening sliding block assembly insert reamer to determineangle then tighten assembly securely
When shaving pegs tighten block down on peg slowly as it is being turned
Same as Manfio Posted Hope this helps good luck Ken
