Please hold the violin a little closer to the keyboard. I'm having trouble seeing it. _________________ Doug Wall

I did a quick search for Justin Derazey violins. They seem to have sold in the $3000 to $6000 range in the 1990's. One thing- These violins seem to date from the 1880's, which doesn't match the dates that you mention. Could be a copy of a Derazey, or a later date instrument from the Derazey workshops. Don't have any info on those. _________________ Doug Wall

Whoo boy! This is the family of luthiers I am desperately trying to find out more about - I know about Justin, etc., but I am attempting to find out something about a "John Louis DeRazey" fantastic viola, c. 1893.
This is a superb-sounding, fantastically carved small instrument, which I am lusting after. (I don't think its owner is selling!)
Like one of these respondents here, I see that other DeRazey instruments are not selling in the very high range, but boy, I'd expect the one I heard to go for a fortune.
Isn't this strange? I never heard of DeRazey before last week, and here are queries and information about the name. I'll stay tuned to this thread for additional info. And deliver some, if I get any.
(I have read that the DeRazey company was sold to P. Mougenot after Justin died in 1890. M. Mougenot continued using the DeRazey labels)
