In the search for stiffness does the famous corduroroy effect have a negative influence on a violin?I like the appearance myself but is there any attitude to it from a maker`s point of view? The soft grain is supposed to act as a sort of frequency filter .

Well, since all of the best makers's violins seem to have originally had some degree of this texture, if it's anything, it's good, not bad.

But I really don't think it matters.
